ELLEN-LY - Former Miss Teen Tennessee 2002
Miss Pom Pom Doll July 2003, Miss Bethel Springs 2001, & Baton Twirling runner up at the Decaturville County Twirling Championship, Tennessee.
Unfortunately, Ellen-Ly did not fulfill her dream of making the National Twirling Hall of Fame. She lost to Miss Soya Bean from Madisson County.
A former Miss Tennessee and winner of 3 beauty/talent titles, Ellen-Ly began baton twirling when she was 2 years old. A majorette and Feature Twirler in the Tipton County Public School Band. She later joined the Western Tennessee majorette team, marching on Disneyland and winning the 2001 NBTA (National Baton Twirling Association) Tennessee twirl team championship. Her talents led her to be a featured performer at numerous Titan and Raw Sugar Bowl games.
Born near Nashville Tennessee, Ellen-Ly soon bored with rodeos, country music, snake handling, supermarket shopping and baseball. She craved personal development and searched for fields that allowed her ambition and talent to improve and blossom.
Her first boyfriend came from nearby Derrick County. His dad had a farm and harvested Bluegrass for the Nashville Courtyards. Ellen-Ly attended Baton Twirling College and worked part time with the Five Singing Cowboys in Nashville before she became a cook at the Loretta Lynn Ranch.
The Strawberry Festival came, the Apple Festival, The Cotton Festival, the HippyHill Festival and the Cookeville Mardi Gras - Ellen-Ly was tired of country love songs and baton twirling and moved onto the delicate movements of Pom Pom Dancing.
Quickly mastering the Varsity Dance and the cheerleaders jumps, she joined the Twerlmasters of Tennessee and introduced Baton Twirling and Hip Hop to Cheerleading. The president of the United States, Bill Clinton, came and played his saxophone along with Bob Dylan's son at the Riverstage on the banks of the Columbia River. Sixteen new and exciting Pom Pom Dances were shown to the public for the first time.
The Twerlmasters of Tennessee gained instant recognition for innovation and creativity and bringing smiles to those watching in the front rows.
Dance Drill Teams were set up all over the county, pom pom uniforms, campwear, t-shirts and accessories displayed the spirit of the community. Schools for cheerleaders sprang up and cheerleading was introduced as a mandatory subject in colleges.
Tennessee became known as the Pom Pom state. The University showcasing the variety of cheerleading styles, pom funk to pom jazz in its spectacular - at the very successful Smithville Slow Walking Horse Show of 2003.
The Cheerleading craze burst out of the Methodist Halls and spread across other states in the US. Presidential Elections, football and baseball games embraced the spectacle and would never be the same.
Pom curriculum, pom choreography, pom pom repertory & pom colour brought the nation to a frenzy. Fast food outlets highlighted pom pom donuts, pom pom burgers and pom pom chilli dogs with mustard. Early intervention programs, pom squad clinics and special psychiatric pom rehabilitation centres were developed to treat addictive problems spawned with the pom pom craze.
Madonna sang like a Pom Pom and Ellen-ly thought it best to move on.........quickly.
